The European Parliament adopted an Own-Initiative Report on the European Industry Strategy that was tabled by the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and prepared by rapporteur Carlo Calenda.
CECOP welcomes that the European Parliament calls for the full inclusion of social economy enterprises in the Industry strategy. The Parliament recognised the important function that social economy enterprises, including worker and social cooperatives, play in serving their communities.
In its opinion to the report, the Parliament’s Employment Committee recognized the important role of cooperatives in complementing the new Industry strategy, the European Green Deal and the European Skills agenda.
CECOP President Giuseppe Guerini commented on the report:
"The COVID-19 pandemic is a moment of crisis, but this industrial strategy must not merely aim to rebuild, but to support the green and digital transitions that are already on their way. It must help to fight inequalities and be inclusive, in order to build a sustainable future for Europe’s industry."
The Industry Strategy has been presented by the European Commission in March 2020, to which CECOP reacted before. In the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this strategy will now be updated, and it is on the European Commission to deliver on these demands.
