They explained that, on a total of around 800 cooperatives affiliated to Confcooperative in Sardinia, around 550 (almost 70%) are in fact worker cooperatives (industrial and service cooperatives classified as “produzione e lavoro”, social cooperatives, cooperatives in culture and transport).
They also said that Sardinia has been marked by economic stagnation for the last few years, with negative consequences on cooperative development: after a period of expansion, the number of cooperatives has recently started to diminish, and start-ups are becoming rare. The fact that Sardinia will definitively leave Objective 1 of the EU Structural Funds add to the concerns of Confcooperative-Sardegna.
